54gene is a Lagos-founded genomics and biotechnology company built to expand the representation of African populations in global genetic research and drug discovery. It has run biobanking, sequencing and pharmacogenomics research in partnership with hospitals and universities across Nigeria.

The company scaled rapidly after its 2019 founding, hiring across laboratory science, bioinformatics, data engineering, clinical operations and business development, before restructuring and downsizing in 2023.
